Carp Love Corn

Hi everyone today I headed over to Blundells fishery to fish the open. A place I don’t have a lot of experience fishing but now and again I like the change and give it a go. Being a rover type draw I opted to fish peg 9 on the Trio lake. Bait for the day 2mm Bait-Tech Carp and Course pellets and for the hook 4 mm Bait-Tech expander with maggots as a change bait. One big factor against me today was Mother nature. With gusts up to 50mph it was to be a short pole and heavy rig day. The furthest I could fish away from me today was 6 metres which was perfect but trust me it was hard work! At the all in I went onto this line and fed a small ball of micros squashed into a ball to make sure that they made it to the bottom and then lowered my expander over the stop. Straight away I was into a nice skimmer of about a pound and half and there after smaller ones kept coming. As we know skimmers love pellets but for me to compete on this lake I have to be catching f1’s and Carp and it seemed that these fish couldn’t get a sniff in! A change to double maggot brought Perch and Roach no matter how I fed and so it was scratch my head time!!! With the conditions ripping through I felt the rig wasn’t presenting right which I felt that the Carp would have wanted it pinned down and so I was glad to have had a tin of Bait-Tech Scopex sweet corn in my bag. I couldn’t get it out quick enough! I put just 3-4 pieces of corn into the cad pot and one on the hook, fed and presented my rig and straight away my float buried and finally I was into the Carp.   I wish I had started on it as at the scales I weighed in 31 lb 13oz which was enough for 7th overall. I’ll be back there soon I promise you!! Again simple tactics and not being scared of ringing the changes brought me some cracking fish today. It’s nothing new that Corn is a fantastic winter bait as the water clears up but it also helps to pin your rig into position when needed. Get out and give it a go. It smells lovely!
